The Tumble-dryer
A man steps into a dryer. The door is closed and the machine starts running. After a while the man comes out, with a reddish tan on his back.
I had just moved into a new house when I recorded the Tumble-dryer. It was shot in the common laundry room in the basement. It had a big enough tumble-dryer. I covered the windows to control the light and to avoid suspicious gazes from any new neighbours. I also locked the door from the inside. I had not imagined that these procedures would provoke an irresistible curiosity among the other tenants in the house. At some point during recording a neighbour violently breaks open the lock, stumbles in, freezes and asks: "What the hell is going on here?" All I managed to come up with, as an answer, was that I actually had booked the laundry room.
