High Achievers (single channel version)
Commissioned by the Film and Video Umbrella for “SELECT”, a touring exhibition with financial assistance from The Arts Council of Great Britain, High Achievers and its twin piece High Anxieties is based on a psychoanalytical concept prevalent in group therapy in the 80’s called EST. A person voluntarily takes the hot seat with the aim to gain deeper insight into self-knowledge and self-perception through feedback from the group.

Monika Oechsler
Monika Oechsler was born in Munich, Germany. Since 1984 she lives and works in London. She studied twice at Goldsmith College, University of London and completed the BA Fine Art in 1990 and the MA Fine Art in 1996. Oechsler’s work is both performative and cinematic and includes multi-screen installations, multi-speaker sound environments, video, photography and animation. Recent solo shows were: Lentos, Kunstmuseum, Linz, Austria, 2005; Edith-Russ-Site for Media Art, Oldenburg, Germany, 2004 and Site Gallery, Sheffield,UK 2003. Major group shows include Artissima 13, Turin, Italy; War of the Buttons, Arhus Kunstbygning, Centre for Contemporary Art, Denmark and Landesgalerie, Linz, Austria; Happy Believers, 7th Werkleitz Biennale, Halle, Germany, War of the Buttons: Children and War, Ursula Blickle Stiftung, Stuttgart, Germany, Risk and Allure, Haus für Kunst Uri, Altdorf, Switzerland, "Coolhunters", Kunsthalle Budapest, Hungary.
